My family makes cookies and other holiday treats and we share them with our neighbors for Christmas.

Every Christmas Eve, we open Christmas Crackers. These are cylindrical cardboard tubes containing a paper crown, joke, small gift, and a snap that causes a loud pop when opened. The charades that come with the crackers are a must for great family fun!

The IT team celebrated the season with a nice dinner and presentation of all the many major accomplishments this year. I bring in homemade chocolate chip cookies in honor of the late Anne Vander Pol. Anne would give a chocolate chip cookie to each individual employee at the corporate office and Auburn terminal every Monday morning to brighten the day. It was also her way of saying thank you.

The family I married into has soup and we keep it rather minimal on Christmas instead of a large spread. We take time to reflect on all the blessings we have enjoyed in the past year. It was rather awkward for me very early on, but now I would not have it any other way.
