2020 Salvation Army Drive

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Every year, Oak Harbor Freight Lines hosts a Salvation Army drive with the hopes that we as a community can come together to help out those who are less fortunate. With this year being 2020, that call to action feels more necessary than ever.

With nearly 8,000 Salvation Army locations throughout the U.S, we are given a huge opportunity to reach out a helping hand to those in need.

What’s the benefit of donating through Oak Harbor Freight Lines? The company will match the donations made, dollar for dollar. Not only that, but the money that you donate will be going towards your local Salvation Army location.

This means that if you donate $20, OHFL will also donate $20. That’s $40 dollars going to your local community!

So how does the Salvation Army help?

Fighting for the Hungry

Prior to COVID-19, lack of food resources affected millions of Americans. This problem increased as shut downs took place and more people found themselves jobless and lacking income.

From no-contact food drive-throughs to meal deliveries to the elderly, the Salvation Army has modified their efforts to help those in need during this time.

Between March and September of 2020, the Salvation Army has served over 100 million meals. As the year comes to a close and cases continue to spike, they will need to double their efforts and will need help to do so.

Protecting the Homeless

The homeless population is more vulnerable during the winter months, facing increased sickness and poor weather. With the presence of COVID-19, this population is even more vulnerable.

During the first nine months of the outbreak, the Salvation Army provided over 1.6 million nights of shelter, but with. COVID-19 brought about unique challenges due to social distancing reducing the space available. But, handing out hygiene kits and ensuring distancing protocols were in place were necessary modifications.

Healing Hearts & Minds

Often times we are focused on the physical hardships that we can see, but we neglect how those hardships can affect the mind. With the loss of lives, illness, unemployment, and isolation – this year has been tough.

The Salvation Army doesn’t just fulfill the physical needs, but provide support for the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of those who come to them. They have helped thousands on their Hope Hotline and to date have provided care to over 836,000 people.
