July’s Purposeful Observation Focus is Maintaining Wellness.

Whether you are a Driver, Dock Worker, Salesperson, Administrative Support, or part of Management being mentally and physically prepared for work each day is key for your success and safety in fulfilling your role here at Oak Harbor and more importantly, to your family.

At Oak Harbor we want all our employees to be as healthy as possible. It is a win-win situation for everyone. If you have questions or suggestions along this line contact your safety supervisor, terminal manager or a member of your safety committee.

There are 5 Key to Maintaining Wellness that when used consistently can improve your overall wellness.

5 Keys to Maintaining Wellness

Get plenty of sleep

Getting a solid 8 hours of sleep is important for good health. It allows the body to rest, repair, and rejuvenate itself. Lack of sleep over a period of time can lead to inability to concentrate and work against optimum health.

Drink lots of water

The old advice that we should drink 8 glasses of water a day is still wise. Water hydrates every cell in our bodies, helping to clear away toxins and maintain our bodies at an optimum level.

Maintain healthy diet and exercise

A well balanced diet and regular exercise contribute to your overall wellness. Take time to stretch daily before and after work. Make a habit of planning for healthy meals. Whether you eat from a restaurant or prepare your own meals, try making healthier choices.

Get your annual physical and dental check ups

A routine physical can detect problems early on, while treatment is still an option. Putting off a physical can lead to serious complications. Dental health is just as important as the rest of your health too.

Avoid harmful substances

In addition to being strictly prohibited, illegal drugs impair your decision making ability and can lead to addictions that destroy lives. When abused, alcohol consumption can have the same consequences. Tobacco use results in many chronic diseases over time.
