The Purposeful Safety Focus for December is Wintertime Personal Safety. Our service area takes in a very wide range of climates, but all areas are colder and wetter during the winter. Injuries are not the only concern during the winter; sickness is also higher during winter months. When you get sick you miss work and as a result everyone suffers. Your first line of defense against getting sick or injured is dressing properly. Proper clothing is important is preventing getting the common cold or the flu.

5 Keys to Wintertime Personal Safety

Hats, Hoods, and Stocking Caps

It should be common knowledge by now that we lose most of our body height through our heads. Keeping your head covered not only helps keep you warm, but offers a bit of protection during those head bumps that seem to be more frequent in the winter.

Wear You Gloves

Not only does a good pair of gloves keep your hands warm, they also protect your hands from injury and provide extra gripping power on wet or slippery surfaces. Carry extra pairs for when one gets wet or damaged.

Use Proper Footwear

Good shoes or boots will keep your feet dry and warm while at the same time giving you traction on slippery surfaces.

Dress in Layers

This is especially important in some of the colder climates but applies everywhere. Layers allow you to remove or add cloths as the conditions change.

Rain Gear

Staying dry is number one in staying healthy during the winter. Be prepared and carry rain gear at all times.
