Over the course of the last couple months, the Sacramento terminal sponsored a toy and general supply drive for the children at the Shriners Hospital of Northern California.

We delivered the toys with our professional driver Rudy Ruvalcaba along with me, Cody Moore and Bernice Quintana on December 15th. Rudy also delivered a speech to the director all while wearing his lit-up Santa hat. They were extremely welcoming and thankful and gave us a tour of the hospital.

We had Hospital Administer Michael Weagraff come to visit us a few weeks before the event to give presentations to a couple shift start times. I know we all learned a lot about the great things the hospital does for children ages birth to 18 years of age. Some employees even had personal experiences with the hospital that they shared with the group.

Shriners helps up to 30,000 children from all over the world annually, specializing in burn victims, amputations and cerebral palsy. Through various sources and the philanthropic efforts of the Shriners organization no patients’ families have a bill.

The toy delivery coincided with our terminal Potluck where the food was plentiful all day long. At the potluck, employees enjoyed our potluck lunch featuring cookies, four pies, homemade sour dough bread, turkey and gravy, ham, pulled pork, special authentic Italian lasagna, and finally 200 homemade chicken wings & famous potato salad made by soon retiring P&D driver Jeff Wemmer!

Everyone contributed to both great homemade cooking and the toy drive for our Shriners Hospital.
