OHFL Safety Performance - May 2026
Here’s a reminder of our 2026 OHFL Safety Goals:
- Reduce accident ratio by 10%
- Achieve and Maintain Vehicle Maintenance Score below 60%
- Achieve and Maintain HM Compliance Score below 60%
So, how did we do during the month of May? Highlights include achieving our lowest accident ratio year-to-date and significantly improving our crash indicator.
Twenty-seven terminals this month had Zero Preventable Accidents and Zero Time Loss Injuries, including the entire Welter Weight group. Congratulations to all!
Incidents/Time Loss Injuries
We saw a strong reduction in overall incident rates, which is a positive trend. However, the increase in Time Loss injuries highlights an opportunity for continued focus. Specifically, we will focus on addressing unsafe work behaviors and engage Safety Committees to develop prevention action plans.
Accidents
May marked our lowest accident ratio year-to-date, which is a strong accomplishment. We will continue reinforcing and practicing the importance of the G.O.A.L. (Get Out And Look) method.
- Approximately 70% of May accidents were tied to failure to check clearances
CSA Performance
- Crash Indicator improved significantly (26% vs. 43% in April)
- HOS Compliance improved slightly
- Vehicle Maintenance and HM Compliance went in the wrong direction
- ISS remained favorable at 29
Areas to focus on include reinforcing pre- and post-trip inspections to keep Maintenance scores below FMCSA thresholds. We will continue ongoing engagement with drivers on Hazmat BOL compliance.
