Here’s a reminder of our 2026 OHFL Safety Goals:
- Reduce accident ratio by 10%
- Achieve and Maintain Vehicle Maintenance Score below 60%
- Achieve and Maintain HM Compliance Score below 60%
Reducing Preventable Accidents by 10% Remains a Top Priority
September was a mixed month for safety performance.
While injury-related metrics remained strong and continued to trend below historical averages. September experienced a significant increase in preventable accidents, rising from 24 accidents in August to 30 in September. The resulting accident ratio of 6.31 is the second highest monthly ratio recorded in 2026 and remains a primary area of concern as we work toward our goal of reducing preventable accidents by 10%.
CSA Performance
- HM Compliance improved by 9 percentage points, bringing us below our 2026 goal threshold of 60%.
- Vehicle Maintenance remains below the goal threshold of 60%, though it increased slightly.
- Crash Indicator increased from 38% to 48%, reflecting the rise in preventable accidents and reinforcing the need for focused accident reduction efforts.

As we enter the fourth quarter, our injury and incident performance remains on a positive trend. However, September’s increase in accidents highlights the need to reinforce defensive driving practices systemwide.
Continued focus on reducing crash frequency will be critical to achieving our 2026 safety goals while maintaining our positive momentum in injury prevention and CSA compliance.
